Avi Weisfogel has a Big Heart for Smiles
Being a philanthropist means sometimes it can be hard to decide which worthy cause to give to. There are so many worthy non-profits that deserve funding and support, but being a dentist, Avi Weisfogel’s GoFundMe for Operation Smile seems like a no-brainer. The non-profit was started in the 1980s by Dr. William Magee. He was a plastic surgeon and his wife was a nurse. Together they realized how many children in the Philippines needed help with facial deformities such as cleft lips and palates. Since there was not adequate medical help, or the funds to perform all these surgeries, the Magee’s decided there was a real need for Operation Smile to help these children receive safe surgeries for free. The non-profit started with just the two founders and has grown with the assistance of thousands of doctors who give their time, money and expertise to the cause.
is no exception; Operation Smile is a charity close to his heart. Avi is a dentist out of New Jersey. He graduated from Rutgers University
with a double major in psychology and biology. After Rutgers, Avi attended New York University College of Dentistry. His first practice was in his hometown of Old Bridge, New Jersey, where he bought the practice of Old Bridge Dental Care.
After spending many years at this practice and winning awards in dentistry, he returned to his passion of helping those with sleep apnea through dentistry.Using dental appliances to help sleep apnea is not the usual way sleep patients treat their disorders. Many use CPAP machines. Getting sleep patients at a dentist practice can be difficult since they often need a recommendation from their normal doctor. However, Avi has been able to help several sleep patients with a great business model. He is the owner and chief lecturer at Owner Unlimited Sleep Patients where he teaches other dentists how to help patients with sleep apnea as well as get more patients. He is the leading expert in the combined fields of dentistry and sleep disorders. His practice Dental Sleep Masters
reaches several sleep apnea patients as well as assisting other dentists in the field. A man so adamant at helping his sleep apnea patients and his fellow dentists, it’s no wonder he has a soft spot for Operation Smile as well, where his expertise as a dentist can be useful as well as any funding he can supply.
