Clay Siegall Likes To Interact With Smart People

Clay B. Siegall co-founded Seattle Genetics. This was in 1998. Currently, he is the President, Chief Executive Officer as well as Chairman of its Board.

 

Clay Siegall is a scientist. His main emphasis is on cancer therapies that are targeted. This is why he built Seattle Genetics based on rigorous research and scientific innovation. He has a passion for helping the cancer patients. Clay Siegall has been instrumental in developing the antibody-drug conjugates. He was able to secure the FDA approval in 2011. This was for the first ADC product of his company. This is ADCETRIS® (brentuximab vedotin) which is a global brand today as it has been approved in over 65 countries.

 

Earlier Clay Siegall served with the Bristol-Myers Squibb Pharmaceutical Research Institute. He worked with them from 1991 to 1997. Clay Siegall worked with the National Cancer Institute, National Institutes of Health. This was from 1988 to 1991. He has also served on the Boards of Directors of Ultragenyx Pharmaceutical, besides Alder BioPharmaceuticals as well as Washington Roundtable.

 

He has received a number of awards for his outstanding achievements. These include the University of Maryland Alumnus of the Year for Computer, Math and Natural Sciences in 2013. In 2012 he was awarded the Pacific Northwest Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year.

 

Clay Siegall has written over 70 publications. Also, he holds 15 patents. Clay Siegall received his Ph.D. in Genetics. This was from the George Washington University. He earned a B.S. in Zoology. This was from the University of Maryland.

 

He got the idea for launching Seattle Genetics as he has always been keen to help patients. He was well aware of the limited tools that are available to oncologists. This is because he had seen how his father progressed with cancer. Now he wanted to improve upon all these tools. This is why he earned his doctorate in genetics and then worked for Bristol-Myers Squibb. This was in their Pharmaceutical Research Institute. This prepared him to run a company and hence Seattle Genetics was founded. He likes to learn by interacting with smart people having expertise in various areas.
