DNC Files Lawsuit Over 2016 Campaign

In a dramatic turn of events, the Democratic National Commitee has filed a multi-million dollar lawsuit against the Russian government, WikiLeaks, and the Trump Campaign. The DNC claims that these three elements illegally conspired together in order to disrupt the 2016 Presidental Campaign and manipulate the outcome to ensure the election of Donald Trump.

The lawsuit follows the widespread theory that the Russian Government colluded with Trump Campaign officials to assist the GOP candidate by hacking the computers of the DNC and leaking information that irrevocably damaged the Clinton Campaign. The collusion is believed to have been perpetrated under the direct authorization of Russian President Vladimir Putin and executed through hackers connected to the Russian spy agency, the GRU.

DNC Chairman Tom Perez did not mince words in a statement: “During the 2016 presidential campaign, Russia launched an all-out assault on our democracy, and it found a willing and active partner in Donald Trump’s campaign.” He concluded, “This constituted an act of unprecedented treachery: the campaign of a nominee for President of the United States in league with a hostile foreign power to bolster its own chance to win the presidency.” Both the President and the Russian Government have continuously rejected and denied this narrative.

The lawsuit does not name the President as a defendant specifically but does name his son Donald Trump, Jr. and son-in-law Jared Kushner among other Trump associates such as Paul Manafort, Roger Stone, and Rick Gates. WikiLeaks and Julian Assange are also named as defendants for publishing the leaking emails on their website. The lawsuit demands an acknowledgment of the conspiracy and its intent.

The DNC’s lawsuit has been filed while the Special Counsel Investigation headed by Robert Mueller in regards to the very same subject is ongoing. So far, the Mueller team has indicted Paul Manafort and his aide Rick Gates on criminal charges and more arrests are expected to come. Witnesses for the prosecution thus far have included Michael Flynn and George Papadopoulos.
