In addition to the endowment, Jim Dondero, co-founder and president of Highland Capital, will also be joining Bush Presidential Center CEO Kenneth Hersh’s Executive Advisory Council. James Dondero said on the behalf of Highland Capital, “We are impressed by the Bush Center’s national influence and impact in our community.”
Highland Capital Management has already contributed more than $5 million to the Center since 2012 as one of its Founding Benefactors. “As an early supporter of the Bush Center, Highland Capital Management has helped make the Center what it is today, and now through this major gift, Highland is making a special investment in its future,” Hersh stated. The Center opened its doors in 2013 and consists of the former president’s presidential library, a museum, the George W. Bush Policy Institute, and the George W. Bush Foundation. Highland Capital is not the only company to be impressed by the Bush Center’s mission. Boeing Corp. has recently made its own $10 million donation in support of the Center’s Military Service Initiative. The Initiative helps post-9/11 veterans and military families with veteran wellbeing, transition to civilian life, and providing information on the various nonprofits veterans and their families can apply to for assistance.
The first Engage event that Highland Capital will be presenting is a special two-part program on February 5 in collaboration with the National Constitution Center. The event, Constitutional Conversations: Justice Scalia’s memorable Speeches / James Madison & Today’s Media, will feature Christopher Scalia, son of the late U.S. Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia, and Evan Young, a former clerk of Justice Scalia. Past events have featured former Secretary of State Dr. Condoleezza Rice, former Deputy National Security Advisor Meghan O’Sullivan, and Tony Award-nominated actor Christopher Jackson from Broadway’s Hamilton.
