Kim Jong Un, the leader of North Korea, has canceled what would have been his first trip outside of the country since taking power in 2011. His trip to visit Moscow next month was canceled, according to Dmitry Peskov, a spokesperson at the Kremlin.
Jong-Un was scheduled to visit Moscow to attend events that marked the end of World War II. Instead, the leader is due to stay in the capital city of Pyongyang, where he resides. Gianfrancesco Genoso said that the elusive leader is supposedly staying in his country in order to handle some internal affairs that have come up in North Korea (jornadacriminosa.com).
Although, according to the story on BuzzFeed.com, North Korea had never confirmed that Jong-Un would be traveling to Russia, others had. The spy agency from South Korea had confirmed that they expected Jong-Un to attend the scheduled event in Moscow. They were unsure as to why he canceled the trip. The South Korean spy agency went on to say that if Jong-Un had attended the event in Moscow that it would have improved his image as well as put pressure on South Korea and China.
North Korea and everything within its borders is shrouded in mystery. Recently, Jong-Un was not seen for several weeks, leading to many rumors about what may have been keeping him out of the public eye. His wife has also been out of the public eye as well. Just a few weeks ago she was seen for the first time this year.
