With all the different organizations today advocating human rights and other rights, its easy for the lower spectrum to fall short of effectiveness. This is primarily due to the lack of funding injected into their projects and causes. Only elite Organizations which put forth the proper time, effort and money will see the fruits of their labor and create an effective change in society.
The US Human Rights Network is a prime example of pooled resources for the greater good. They contain over 200 self-identified grassroots Human Rights organizations and over 700 individuals all working collectively to strengthen the protection of Human Rights in the United States. They work on Housing, criminal punishment, immigration, workers rights and many more issues. It is this notion of a combined organization that makes them particularly powerful.
In this age, the more networking you do, the more likely you will be able to stimulate true change. Not only this, but the old sang rings true, there is great power in numbers. Here we see many organizations coming together for the common good in a super-organization. This is an effective strategy for the advancement of advocacy groups in America. Without Technology, it would be far more difficult to have a coherent structure, and this is exactly what they wisely take advantage of.
The amount of funding that goes into any organization can make or break its effectiveness in our ever increasing technological era. One prominent advocate for all human, civil and migrant rights was established through a generous large fund through the Frontera Fund. Jim Larkin and Michael Lacey, Co-founders of Phoenix New Times and Village Voice Media, have created the Frontera Fund which is another very effective advocacy group due to their intelligence and not to mention three million dollars.
They received settlement money due to an incident where Sherriff Joe Arpaio; a rather stringent cop who prides himself on strict immigration policy, targeted Larkin & Lacey to obtain their articles and notes. They had previously released this intent and then were later arrested at their homes and detained to separate offices. They even tried to obtain their browsing history and IP addresses. They were interrogated and then promptly released. Shortly after they received their settlement in court to the tune of three million, which they selflessly donated to the cause of halting abuse of power and the consequences thereof.
Organizing a fund like this ensured the definitive prevention of such ridiculous acts and abuse of the constitution and of free speech specifically. They have sought to reform the attitude of those who have a sense of entitlement and abuse their power. Not only this, but this event fueled their passion for other causes and they have been richly rewarded with success and continue to this day. Larkin & Lacey were able to turn a negative into a positive by utilizing their settlement fund towards the common good of humanity. Their money is pooled to various foundations and organizations to solidify the overall cause.
