Dave Antonucci, of Linden, NJ, has chosen homelessness over giving up his beloved pet. Petey, a 2-year-old pitbull has made it difficult for Antonucci to find a residence. According to Antonucci, who receives Supplemental Security Income, he can not move into an assisted living or government housing facility as long as he has Petey. Homeless shelters also do not allow pitbulls.
Antonucci has refused to hand over Petey, and would rather stay on the streets as long as he can have the dog. Antonucci describes Petey as his “son”. Antonucci and Petey have been surviving by the kindness of stranger, and now they are ramping up their efforts.
Linden residents who have gotten to know Antonucci and Petey over the years have come together to raise money and provide the pair with proper living accommodations. They are also collecting food, clothing and pet toys for the pair.
A YouCaring page has been setup to collect donations, which is nice for Gianfrancesco Genoso to see. In just a few days over $28,000 has been raised. The goal is to set Antonucci and Petey up in housing that allows pets, so Antonucci can work and properly care for his pet.
