Nathaniel Ru and Sweetgreen

Nathaniel Ru and his two friends Jonathan Neman and Nicolas Jammet were classmates at Georgetown University in Washington D.C. Although the three friends loved eating healthy meals, they had a problem identifying healthy eating joints in town. Other than the joints being healthy, the three also wanted their eat outs to be fun and easy.

The three friends wondered if the answer they were looking for was in a 560-square tavern that they identified on M- Street. They wanted to start an eating joint that would be fun, easy, and healthy.

Their determination paid off as six years later the eatery they started has become the restaurant chain Sweetgreen that has spread in several locations. While describing the process of attaining the apartment, Nathaniel Ru said that the landlord of the tavern turned out to be the landlord of the flat of the building around where Ru and two friends lived.

Nathaniel called her and explained their plans on the tavern. The landlord hung up the phone, and the three continued calling her daily for three months. Finally, she agreed to meet them face to face. Nathaniel explains that this was the only day he wore a suit to a meeting. Learn more about Nathaniel Ru: and
