There are quite a few civil rights organizations in the United States. When you’re looking for a group who can help with discrimination issues, education or other topics that deal with civil rights, you want to find a group that is reputable and that is in good standing with its members.
American Civil Liberties Union
This is a group that is dedicated to protecting the civil rights of everyone in the country. The organization was founded in 1920 and is one of the oldest groups of its kind in the United States. Leaders use litigation tactics in order to protect the rights of citizens while educating people about the civil rights that they are freely given. They work with court cases that involve discrimination against civil rights. Most of the work is done with the First Amendment rights, but there is also a focus on others as well. Freedom of speech and freedom of religion are two areas where the group focuses its efforts on most occasions.
The group works with people in the United States, but it’s largely known for its efforts across the world in making sure that minorities are given the same rights as others. This group was founded in 1961 as a way to bring attention to the governments around the globe that were violating the civil rights of certain groups of people. Volunteers work to educate others about immigration and the civil rights of detainees of terrorism-related events.
Human Rights Watch
When the group was founded in 1978, its goal was to monitor the conditions of workers in the Soviet Union. It is an international group, but it does focus efforts on assisting people in the United States if there are issues that arise in the workplace.
National Association for the Advancement of Colored People
This is one of the most recognized groups when it comes to African Americans and other minority groups in the country. Volunteers work to protect the rights of these groups so that they can live and work freely in the country like everyone else. There are funds set aside for housing and other essentials that are needed along with legal funds to help with court issues. The group was founded in 1909 and is gaining in strength to this day as more people are taking a stand for African Americans and other minorities. Volunteers often lobby on Capitol Hill to preserve basic rights that are granted to all citizens.
Lacey And Larkin Frontera Fund
This is a fund established by Michael Lacey and Jim Larkin. These two men voiced their concerns about the Sheriff of Phoenix and were arrested after releasing information about court documents. After suing the county, they received a settlement that is now being used to help migrants in the state. Learn more: https://www.manta.com/c/mh1g8hz/lacey-and-larkin-frontera-fund
