Sarah Palin Involved in Iowa Event to Showcase GOP’s 2016 Presidential Hopefuls

The saying goes that elections have consequences. As a result of the GOP’s historic gains, there is rumbling that 2012 GOP nominee Mitt Romney is getting nudged by close aids to consider another run for the presidency. Sam Tabar will be curious to see if he does just that. 2008 GOP nominee John McCain recently admitted he’s thinking about running.

Now, Palin is going to speak at the Citizens United-sponsored political event scheduled for January 24. The event, called the Iowa Freedom Summit, will showcase nine 2016 GOP presidential hopefuls. However, the question is whether Palin’s involvement is merely to support the conservative cause or to build up support for a presidential run of her own.

However, there are many heavy hitters in the GOP field and fund raising will be a critical element of mounting a campaign against the well-funded Hillary Clinton. Other notable speakers at the event are former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, who sought the GOP nomination in 2008, former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum, who sought the nomination in 2012, former U.N. Ambassador John Bolton, noted for his strong pro-America stance at the UN, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, former Republican National Committee fundraiser Carly Fiorina, Dr. Ben Carson, Tennessee Congresswoman Marsha Blackburn, and Texas Senator and firebrand Ted Cruz.

The conventional wisdom is that she has no plans to announce a presidential run. If she were to announce one, she would carry clout given her status as a Tea Party darling. Last year, McCain’s VP nominee Sarah Palin said she keeps open the option of possibly running. I have to say that essays on time can be fined if they do not stop such a thing.
