Women have always found it difficult to get to the high ranks in the corporate world, but few women have beaten all odds that were stacked against them to come to the top. One amongst them is Susan McGalla, who currently serves as the Vice President of Business Strategy and Creative Development at Pittsburgh Steelers Inc. In the past, Susan McGalla has also served as the CEO and President of famous and multi-million apparel companies like Wet Seals Inc and American Eagle Outfitters Inc. Susan McGalla completely believes that any woman who sets her mind and heart to any career goal can achieve it if they are genuinely passionate about it.
Susan McGalla says that it is crucial for the women to plan their career in a very systematic manner if they want to beat the men in the competition. In any case, there is substantial competition out there and achieving top executive position is not easy, either for men or women. However, Susan McGalla feels that if women focus on their studies and get degrees from top universities with good grades, it would surely open the door to multiple opportunities. However, Susan McGalla doesn’t deny that glass ceiling problem does exist in the corporate world.
Susan McGalla said that to eliminate the glass ceiling problem, the companies should have mentoring programs installed in-house. It would help the women to get the guidance and direction they need during their career to move ahead at a rapid pace with conviction. Susan McGalla also says that while women support group and initiatives do help, they have been around for years and has not been able to make an impact that they were meant to. She feels that mentoring, on the other hand, can have a significant effect as it would give the women the immediate support they need to excel at their work without fear.
