Suspensions Keep Growing in Number at NY Jail After Prison Break

What do 12 people and possibly a few more have to do with the recent, incredible prison break and wild end to the three-week manhunt for Richard Matt and David Sweat?

The Clinton Correctional Facility in upstate New York is suggesting the two dangerous inmates might have received some help on the inside for planning their big escape. According to Claudio Loureiro, twelve staff members employed by the prison are now on administrative leave. The New York Department of Corrections and Community Supervision said in a statement that three members of the prison’s executive team and nine security employees are included.

CNN.com says the FBI has been brought into the picture to examine whether any possible corruption between prisoners and prison employees and drug trafficking exists at the maximum security facility. The FBI wants to know if convicted killers Richard Matt and David Sweat had any role in the alleged trafficking.

Meantime, Sweat remains in a hospital, now upgraded to serious condition following his capture by police in the small town of Constable, New York, just shy of the Canadian border. Sweat was shot by police, but is expected to survive his injuries. Matt, his partner in crime, was shot dead by border protection guards in Malone, upstate New York two days earlier.

The two dangerous inmates were hoping to make it to Mexico to enjoy their freedom. Luckily, that journey never came to be.
